Orange chicken is a very popular Asian inspired dish that not alot of people know how to make. Asian food is very simple, yet flavorful, and we want to share this recipe with our readers.
1 lb. Boneless, skinless thigh meat
2 cups flour
1/2 cup milk
4 cloves garlic
1 Thsp fresh minced ginger
1 tsp crushed red pepper
1/2 small white onion diced
3 Thsp soy sauce
1 tsp orange zest
1/2 cup orange juice
1 tsp paprika
1 Thsp garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
Wok (or frying pan)
Okay let’s get started!
First, dice the chicken thighs into bite size pieces. Depending on the size of the thighs, you should get about 5 pieces per thigh. Next, take a bowl and mix together paprika, garlic powder, soy sauce and black pepper. Make sure that you taste the marinade and add salt if needed. Follow that by adding the chicken too the marinade and let sit in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to an hour. Drain any excess marinade from the chicken so it will be easier to fry.
*Get your wok and heat the vegetable oil on a medium high heat.*
Set up breading station. One bowl with flour, second bowl with egg and milk together and the third bowl with flour. Add salt and pepper to the second flour bowl. Dip chicken in the flour then in the egg mixture then in the seasoned flour. Fry the chicken until golden brown, and then let the oil drain on a plate with paper towels.
After all the chicken is fried, drain the oil from the wok, and scrape any excess burnt bits out of it. Add one Tbsp of vegetable oil back into the skillet and add garlic, ginger, onion and crushed red pepper. Slowly heat the contents on medium. In a small saucepan, add orange juice, orange zest and honey until it thickens. Toss chicken in the wok with the orange and honey mixture. Serve with your choice of fried rice, noodles, vegetables or even with a salad.
